A beautiful pair of matching tall boys/chest of drawers, manufactured in England during the late 1960s by Austinsuite. 

The taller one has six drawers and the smaller one has five drawers.

Crafted in high-quality teak, this highly desirable matching pair reflects mid 20th century English designers and manufacturers taking inspiration from classic Danish/Scandinavian modern design, which is minimalist, functional, and clean-lined.

Austinsuite was a British furniture manufacturer founded in 1928 by the Austin brothers, whose family immigrated from Austria. Starting in London, they initially specialized in traditional bedroom suites before evolving into one of the largest furniture manufacturers in the UK by the 1960s. The company became known for adopting modern designs and was a pioneer in the UK market for flatpack, self-assembly bedroom furniture with systems like the Multiglide system. The company eventually closed in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

In the 1960s, Austinsuite underwent a remarkable transformation. Accomplished designers like Frank Guille joined their ranks, propelling the company from tradition to modernity. They expanded beyond bedroom furniture, adding dining sets to their repertoire. Fitted wardrobes became a game-changer, reflecting the changing needs of homeowners. Clive Latimer, another notable designer, contributed to Austinsuite’s success during this period.
