1960s G Plan Danish Range Extending Teak Dining Table & Five Dining Chairs By Ib Kofod-Larsen Mid Century Vintage Retro MCM

A beautiful example of 1960s Danish-inspired British furniture design, this stunning G Plan dining set was designed by renowned Danish designer, Ib Kofod-Larsen as part of the highly sought-after G Plan Danish range.

Crafted in richly coloured teak, the elegant extending dining table features a beautifully figured oval top with softly rounded edges, a slender apron and gently tapered legs, perfectly capturing the clean lines and understated sophistication of Scandinavian mid century design.

The table incorporates a practical central extension leaf, allowing it to transform effortlessly from a compact oval dining table into a generously proportioned dining space, ideal for both everyday use and entertaining.

Accompanying the table are five matching G Plan Danish dining chairs, featuring beautifully sculpted, gently curved teak backrests, elegant tapered frames and contrasting black upholstered seats. Their refined proportions and distinctive Danish styling complement the table perfectly. The seat pads have been newly upholstered with period correct black vinyl coverings.

The warmth and character of the teak grain, combined with the simplicity of the design, make this a particularly attractive dining set that would sit comfortably in both contemporary and traditional interiors.

A wonderful example of the collaboration between British furniture manufacturer G Plan and celebrated Danish designer Ib Kofod-Larsen, whose work helped define the Scandinavian influence on British furniture throughout the 1960s.

G Plan Danish was launched in January 1962 as a more exclusive, premium collection, specifically to compete with imported Scandinavian furniture.

Finding a sixth matching chair for this set would be wonderful as we understand that 5 chairs is a strange number.

The story of G Plan began in 1898, when Ebenezer Gomme established his furniture-making business, E Gomme Ltd, in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, a town renowned for its furniture-making heritage.

Originally producing traditional furniture, E Gomme became one of Britain's established furniture manufacturers before undergoing a major transformation in the post-war years.

In 1953, E Gomme launched G Plan, a revolutionary new range of contemporary furniture designed to appeal to modern British households. Rather than simply changing the company name, G Plan was introduced as a new brand under the existing E Gomme business.

G Plan helped transform British furniture retailing by offering coordinated furniture ranges that customers could purchase individually and add to over time, rather than having to buy complete matching suites.
During the 1960s, G Plan embraced the growing popularity of Scandinavian design, collaborating with celebrated Danish designer Ib Kofod-Larsen to create the G Plan Danish range. Featuring beautifully crafted teak, elegant proportions and clean, sculptural lines, these designs became some of the company's most recognisable and desirable pieces.

Today, vintage G Plan furniture remains highly sought after for its quality, practicality and timeless mid-century styling.
