A rare swivel lounge chair from the 1-2-3 series, Danish design by Verner Panton for Fritz Hansen in the early 1970s.

Designed in 1973/74. Cantilever chair made from tubular steel, upholstered in blue, buttoned-through wool, fitted with a aluminium swivel plate base baring its original ‘Fritz Hansen’ engraving.

Can be used as dining chairs, or be fantastic looking lounge chairs.

Verner Panton was born in Denmark in 1926, he set out to become an artist but later found his passion for design after studying architecture at the Royal Danish Academy of Art underneath Arne Jacobsen and Poul Henninsen who later became his father in law.

Panton's designs centered around flowing forms, bright colours, unusual shapes and new materials. His experimental attitude towards design and materials set him apart from his peers, who were most commonly using wood. This exploration with new materials led him to create the S Chair, the first chair made in a singular continuous piece of moulded plastic, which is still to this day one of his most famous designs. Many of his projects were produced by Fritz Hansen and Louis Poulsen.

Panton brought pop art to the world of furniture which he then translated into interior design installations. He created psychedelic immersive interiors for hotels, offices and exhibitions such as Visiona.

These featured concept environments intending to promote new ways of living. They were bold, unconventionally colourful, fun and futuristic. Often using parallel colour schemes Panton created unique atmospheres in spaces which housed his lighting, furniture, textiles and interactive seating.
