Eight Manila Dining Chairs By Val Padilla For Conran Mid Century Vintage Retro MCM

A set of eight 'Manila' dining chairs designed by Filipino designer Val Padilla for Jasper Conran and retailed in the UK by Conran in the 1970s and 1980s.

The set comprises of six singles and two carvers each featuring sculptural wooden frames with an elegantly curved silhouette, these chairs showcase a refined balance of form and comfort. The handwoven rush seagrass seats add texture and contrast to the smooth timber, highlighting traditional craftsmanship.

Made famous recently as seen in the BBC series ‘Killing Eve’.

Val Padilla of the Philippines, started his career as an industrial designer in 1979, after graduating from a bachelor's College degree in Fine Arts at the University Of Santo Tomas, Manila. The Design Center of the Philippines, gave him the opportunity to be one of the first Furniture Designer in the country. Mr Padilla was trained by many famous International Industrial designers namely, Gerd Schuessler of Germany, Frank Sander of Germany, Paola Navonne of Italy, Chyie Oshima of Japan, Philip Cutler of United States to name a few. At present he has accumulated more than 50 Design awards for Best Product Design, Best Booth Design, Best Product Collection, Best Booth design or Best in Visual Merchandisng. One would know how successful Val Padilla is by the names of his list of Clients e.g. Locsin International Inc., Padua International,Inc., Demex Rattan Craft Inc., Spring Sheets Inc. Calfurn Manufacturing Inc. and JLQ International.
