Vintage Swedish ‘Galaxy’ Armchair By Alf Svensson & Yngvar Sandström For Dux Mid Century Retro MCM

A very rare and extremely comfortable swivel armchair, this is the 'Galaxy' armchair, designed by Alf Svensson and Yngvar Sandström. It was made in Sweden by Dux in the late 60s and early 70's, and is in superb original condition. The cream plastic frame is clean, sturdy and sound, with no damage and only some extremely minor surface wear. The original red fabric is made of wool, which has been professionally cleaned and is stain free.

Swedish furniture designer Alf Svensson (1929-1992) was particularly active in the 1950s through the 1970s, designing storage, tables and seating for a variety of influential manufacturers.

Svensson’s designs for the Swedish furniture maker Dux are arguably his most well-known. In particular, his collection of easy chairs and lounge chairs - known as the Form Series - which was designed in the 1960s and ‘70s. Other designs include, the Galaxy Chair (1968 with Yngve Sandström), which has a moulded plastic shell that rests on a white lacquered aluminium swivel-base; and the swivelling Contourette Roto Chair (1960s).
