A beautifully designed & crafted, fully restored low backed lounge chair, manufactured in the 1960s by the renowned high quality British maker, ‘Greaves & Thomas’.

Featuring solid teak legs with brass castors and gorgeously original dark pink dralon upholstery.

Greaves & Thomas is one of Britain’s most celebrated furniture brands. Established in the early 1900s, the company focused on growing its range of lounge furniture with a focus on fashionable upholstery. By the mid 20th century, Greaves & Thomas had expanded its collection to include sideboards, dining tables and mirrors.

Characterised by graceful frames and simple contours, Greaves & Thomas pioneered many designs in the UK typical of mid century modernism. The company strived to refine its processes to ensure that all designs embodied current trends in furniture.

By the mid-twentieth century Greaves & Thomas were also producing a range of high quality furniture in the Danish Modern style, including sideboards, armchairs and dining furniture. It was during the 1950s and 1960s that the company employed highly skilled furniture designers, the most well known of these being Walter Cornell, a designer known for creating pieces influenced by Danish Modern style: sculptural with clean lines.

In 1967 Greaves & Thomas were acquired by popular mid-century furniture maker Schreiber (now owned by Sainsbury’s) in order to add a high end arm to their brand and product line.

Today, Greaves & Thomas designs are much sought over and very desirable.
