Marcel Breuer For Isokon Set Of Three Bent Beech Plywood Nesting Tables 1960s Mid Century Vintage Retro MCM

A superb original 1960s set of three nesting tables, designed by the celebrated Bauhaus architect and furniture designer Marcel Breuer for Isokon, beautifully crafted from moulded beech plywood.

Originally designed in 1936, these iconic tables are among Breuer’s most recognisable creations and a wonderful example of the pioneering modernist furniture produced by Isokon during the twentieth century.

Manufactured by Isokon during the 1960s, following the company’s revival in 1962, this set represents a continuation of Marcel Breuer’s iconic 1930s design. Originally produced in Estonia, production ceased following the outbreak of the Second World War before being reintroduced in the 1960s.

This particular set beautifully showcases the innovative use of moulded beech plywood, with each table displaying an elegant, continuous curved form, softly rounded edges and distinctive tapered legs.

The beautifully figured beech plywood displays a rich, warm honey-coloured finish, highlighting the natural grain and sculptural qualities of the design.

Ingeniously designed to nest neatly beneath one another, the three tables combine practicality with understated elegance. Their simple yet striking silhouettes make them equally attractive displayed together or individually as occasional or side tables.

A wonderful and increasingly collectable example of 1960s British modernist furniture, combining Bauhaus principles, innovative construction and timeless design.
