Mid Century Black Leather Åke Fribyter Swedish Armchair Vintage Retro MCM

Manufactured in Sweden during the 1970s by famous interior designer Åke Fribyter.

Featuring swooping, sculpted, curved arms, held up on a solid teak frame and gorgeous original black leather upholstery.

Part of a matching lounge set which includes a two seater sofa and the single armchair.

Born in 1922 and died in 1998, Åke Fribyter was a famous Swedish interior designer. He worked at Carl Malmsten in the early 1950s. In 1961, together with Ingvar Carlsson, he created the Mysingen furniture series. Fribyter also designed the Classic chair for Gemla Möbler AB and the Kroken armchair for Nelo Möbler in 1974. Fribyter worked for the industrial design company Design AB, where he designed products for companies such as Fiskars, Electrolux and Ericsson. He was also an active member of the Swedish functional design movement, which advocated simplicity and functionality in product design. Throughout his career, Fribyter worked in a wide variety of fields, from furniture and appliance design to boat, aircraft and train design.

He won numerous awards for his work, including the Lunning Prize in 1955 and the Prince Eugen Medal in 1981. Today, Åke Fribyter's designs are often considered classics of Swedish design, characterized by their simplicity, functionality and timeless elegance.
