Mid Century Dining Table & 4 Chairs S320 By Stag S Range John & Sylvia Reid Vintage Retro MCM

A beautiful dining table and 4 chairs set made in the early 1960s in the UK by John and Sylvia Reid, as part of their S range and retailed through Heals.

The Stag S Range was produced between 1960 and 1963, after which time it was discontinued due to a lack of commercial success. This range has not been reissued or reproduced since.

The table features nickel-plated steel legs, solid afromosia sides with teak veneered top. The table has an extra extension leaf that slots away neatly beneath the top when not in use, which can extend the seating from four to six.

The dining chairs have their original black faux leather seat pads, solid afromosia backrests and are supported by nickel plated steel frames.

John and Sylvia Reid were both working architects, and gained valuable experience working for influential British designer Robin Day and Hille in the early 1950s. They were asked to design a range of furniture for Stag, and fostered a 10-year partnership between 1952 and 1962 with the manufacturer. Taking inspiration from the prevailing Scandinavian designers of the time, and drawing on their architectural background, John and Sylvia were among the pioneers of British Mid Century Modern furniture.
