Pieff furniture was a range of avant-garde furniture designed and produced in Cradley Heath near Birmingham from 1953 until 1983

Pieff of Worcester was one of the most important manufacturers of high-end British furniture during the 60s, 70s and early 80s, describing itself as ‘luxury furniture of the late 20th century’.

Pieff now personify British mid century design.

Pieff as we know today, was formed as “Production Facilities Limited” in 1953 by Frederick Bates and son David, and produced contract furniture for hospitals, coffee bars and canteens, and other commercial uses.

After Tim Bates joined, younger brother of David, the business in 1966, the company began to produce high-end furniture we know today.

Sold through Harrods, Heals and other prestigious shops, Pieff was synonymous with luxury. Globally recognised as one of the top brands, Pieff were particularly successful in the 1970s.

Tim Bates designed some of the most cutting-edge British furniture of the period. A design student with experience on the factory floor, Tim led the Design and Development of a new up-market product range in the late 1960s. Launched at the Decor Furniture Exhibition in May 1970, promotional photos displayed the furniture alongside Lamborghini supercars. In keeping with this Italian connection, the first two Pieff model ranges were named Eleganza and Suntuoso. Though initially created for the contract market, Pieff furniture was quickly aimed at retail customers.

A casualty of the industrial recession of the 1980s, Pieff Furniture went into receivership in May 1983. Then, local company PEL Ltd of Oldbury purchased the Pieff product range and remaining stock. Currently, the Pieff name belongs to P. F. Collections Ltd of Long Eaton, Nottingham.
