An original low back rosewood "Scandia" lounge chair by Georg Eknes for Hans Brattrud
Designed by Hans Brattrud and made by Georg Eknes. An original 1960's Scandia swivel lounge chair, in rosewood and chrome. Hans Brattrud was a Norwegian furniture designer and architect. Brattrud worked at a local carpenters before attending the National College of Art and Design in Oslo. It was during his studies that Brattrud experimented with wood bending techniques and designed the first chairs in his iconic Scandia range in 1957 and through to the early 60s which remain to this day his most sought after designs.
The Scandia chair brought him international recognition and variations of the design were developed. Brattrud went on to work as an architect specialising in prefabricated houses.
These slatted chairs have a timeless, elegant and organic form and come complete with their original black leather cushions which is very rare and scarcely seen.
Original makers labels affixed to the base:
"Georg Eknes Metallindustri, Eikneswag, Bergen. Pat Pend. Made in Norway"
The chair has been professionally restored by a specialist and is in perfect condition.
