Sligh Lowry American Walnut Tambour Desk and Chair Mid Century Vintage MCM Retro

Walnut Tambour Desk with matching chair by Sligh-Lowry of Holland, Michigan circa 1950s/1960s

With flanking tambour roll cabinet doors either side, which open to reveal desk drawers, under a raised writing surface. The left side opens to a file drawer, right side opens to two storage drawers, with large centre drawer.

Splayed legs with metal sabot feet.

The Sligh family of Grand Rapids, Michigan have been prominent businessmen and furniture makers for over one hundred years.

In 1933, Charles R. Sligh Jr., 27, acquired some of the assets of the old Sligh Furniture Company, including the name, and formed a partnership with Bill Lowry, a furniture production consultant and a former plant manager at Sligh. They utilized some of the designs from the Sligh Furniture Company to continue sales and production under the name, Charles R. Sligh Company in Holland, Michigan. That same year, desks were introduced which subsequently became the company's chief product line.
