Pair Of Herbert E Gibbs Tall Boy/Chest Of Drawers Mid Century Vintage Retro MCM

Price is for the pair

A striking and well-crafted pair of chest of drawers by Herbert E. Gibbs, a respected but lesser-known name in British mid century furniture. Active from the 1930s to the 1960s, Gibbs was known for producing high-quality pieces with refined proportions and minimalist detailing, often rivalling the likes of G Plan, but in much smaller production runs. As a result, his furniture is far rarer to find today and highly collectable.

These handsome chests, crafted from richly grained teak and tola veneers, features four full-width drawers on each. Each drawer is finished with original solid teak pull knobs.

Herbert E. Gibbs trained as a cabinet maker at a technical college and also taught carpentry at a school. He founded Herbert E. Gibbs, a furniture manufacturing company in approximately the 1920s. The firm was based at De Beauvoir Road, London and later First Avenue, Montague Road, London. The firm produced furniture for domestic and commercial use. This was sold direct to the public and trade and through retailers across the UK, including Heals.
